OZ Course 2025

The ALERT Olek Zienkiewicz School on Constitutive Modelling of Geomaterials 2025 was held at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, from February 3 to February 7, 2025. The school was attended by 58 participants, out of which 42 were from ALERT institutions.

The school had been led by seven speakers from different institutions across Europe: prof. David Mašín (Charles University, Prague), prof. Claudio Tamagnini (University of Perugia), prof. Ivo Herle (Technical University of Dresden, Germany), Dr. Gertraud Medicus (University of Innsbruck, Austria), Dr. Alexandros Petalas (Durham University, UK), Dr. Merita Tafili (Ruhr University Bochum, Germany), Dr. Filippo Masi (Inria, France).

The content of the school addressed the characterization, calibration and numerical implementation of constitutive models for geomaterials. It covered theoretical fundamentals, formulations of models from different classes and also hands-on calibration exercises.

The course was composed of 26 lecture sessions (50 min. each) plus 6 hands-on sessions (50 min. each) split into five days with the following main topics and teachers:

Fundamentals – HERLE, MEDICUS, TAMAGNINI

Basic Concepts – HERLE, MASIN, MEDICUS, PETALAS

Small Strain Non-Linearity and Cyclic Loading – HERLE, MASIN, PETALAS, TAFILI

Multiphysics and Advanced Topics – MASI, MASIN, TAFILI, TAMAGNINI

Implementation and BVP – MASIN, MEDICUS, TAMAGNINI
