The session “Rock and soil mechanics” as a part of the [GT1] symposium on Materials will be organized by Cino Viggiani and Michel Bornert at ICEM16 – 16th International Conference on Experimental Mechanics (Cambridge, England, July 7-11, 2014). The Olek Zienkiewicz Course (ALERT Summerschool) in Innsbruck was attended by 34 participants from the following countries: Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland and Sweden. The summer school comprised also an excursion to interesting landslide sites in the Alps, guided by Dr. G. Heissel.
