Geotechnical Advances and Challenges in Urban Development – 2020 AGS Sydney Golden Symposium

Speakers: Prof Robert Mair, Dr Chris Haberfield, Idy Li, Theva Muttuvel and Philippe Vincent

The 21st Australian Geomechanics Society, Sydney Chapter will be organised on Friday 13 Nov 2020 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (AEST), fully online.

The symposium will showcase state-of-the-art practices, new research findings and case histories that demonstrate geotechnical advances and challenges in urban development. The organising committee invites papers on geotechnical aspects of urban development, underground structures, restoration of geotechnical structures, innovative and cost-efficient solutions, groundwater modelling and application of smart technologies. The symposium presents an opportunity for professional engineers, researchers, specialist contractors, regulators, educators and students to meet and share their knowledge and experiences in geotechnical engineering.

We invite you all to check the Programme and register as webinar attendant at our website https://australiangeomechanics.org/meetings/geotechnical-advances-and-challenges-in-urban-development/.

The registration for non members is AU$30.

Intensive Course on Energy Geostructures: Analysis and Design (Online version, 2-4 November 2020, 3rd Edition)

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to inform you that, this year, the third edition of the 3-day intensive course for practitioners and scientists entitled “Energy geostructures: analysis and design” will take place online from November 2 to 4, 2020.
This third edition of the short-course comes after the publication of the book “Analysis and Design of Energy Geostructures” (Elsevier, 2019) co-authored by the Programme Directors. The short-course will expand on the essentials of the book, with the aim to provide attendees with a sound theoretical understanding of the problems addressed as well as with practical and effective tools to address the considered subjects.

The course has been designed with civil engineers in mind, but targets energy engineers, architects, urban project managers and geologists as well. The course will be valuable for attendees who have no experience with energy geostructures as well as for those who have already been involved in a project of energy geostructures. As some of the course is based on the Thermo-Pile software, you will receive a complimentary 3-month academic license to improve your skills in the analysis and design of energy piles.

The number of participants for this intensive course is limited, and currently accounts for more than twenty participants from all over the world: Switzerland, Norway, USA, Canada, Hungary, Netherlands, UK, Austria, Germany, France and Croatia.

The available spots are being filled on a first come first served basis. More information about the course can be found on its dedicated website (https://www.formation-continue-unil-epfl.ch/en/formation/energy-geostructures-analysis-design/). We look forward to spending together this special occasion.

Sincerely,

Lyesse Laloui and Alessandro F. Rotta Loria
Programme Directors
