Dear Colleagues,
we would like to draw your attention to the Call for Papers for a Special Issue on “Computational & Geoenvironmental Geomechanics for Underground and Subsurface Structures”, to be published after peer-review in “European Journal of Environmental and Civil Engineering” journal.
A gentle reminder that Abstracts to the 7th International Symposium on Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials can be submitted until August 1st. If you are interested in submitting an abstract, please follow the link to the Symposium Home
Following the success of last year, we are pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the Winter School on Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment (https://gete-school.epfl.ch/), which will be held on January 22nd-24th 2019, in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland. Geomechanics, Environment and Energy are increasingly related and contemporary themes. The goal of the school is to provide participants with a deep understanding on selected topics in Geomechanics which are fundamental for applications related to Energy and the Environment. This Winter School is organized in the framework of the international journal Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment.
6-8 March 2019, EPF Lausanne, 2nd Edition
Lyesse Laloui and Alessandro Rotta Loria are pleased to inform you about the second edition of a 3-day intensive course for practitioners and scientists entitled Energy geostructures: analysis and design that will be held at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, from March 6th?to 8th, 2019.
NTNU’s Geotechnical Group offers a PhD Course in Soil Modelling from September 3rd to 9th, 2018.
The course provides a background for development and application of the soil models used in finite element based computer codes. It focuses on soil behaviour, elasto-plastic theory, selected material models and their parameters. The aim is to provide a general theoretical framework for interpretation of the mechanical behaviour of soils.
The course is at postgraduate/PhD level. It is based on a combined mathematical and graphical approach but is designed to give a platform for practical application in geotechnical design.
Please see the attached file for further details.
We are delighted to launch ICONHIC2019; a major event that invites Engineers, Financers, Policy Makers and Innovators to join forces in order to set a robust and viable trace towards protecting our civil infrastructure from natural hazards.

Advanced course on Modeling of Localized Inelastic Deformation (LID 2018), taught by Milan Jirásek in Prague, Czech Republic, 3-7 September 2018.
This course provides an overview of modeling approaches used in the mechanics of inelastic materials and structures, with special attention to an objective description of highly localized deformation modes such as cracks or shear bands. It is one of the RILEM educational courses. The course is intended for graduate students at the doctoral level, but it can be equally useful to motivated master students, post-doctoral researchers, or senior researchers who are not specialists in this field.
