The Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems (COFS) at the University of Western Australia (UWA) is looking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher on an Australian Research Council supported project on suction bucket foundations for offshore wind turbines, in collaboration with Lloyd’s Register EMEA and the University of Melbourne. The research will generate new knowledge of suction bucket installation and in-service response by integrating field experience with results from innovative experiments, with the aim to develop an industry guideline. The scope of the research is predominantly experimental.

A PhD position is available in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) within in the field of continuum mechanics and elasto-viscoplasticity. The research aims to provide a constitutive model for soft, sensitive Scandinavian clays for practical geotechnical design using the Finite Element Method.

The Civil Engineering research group at Oxford has an academic vacancy in the area of Geotechnical Engineering / Offshore Renewable Energy. The appointment is at Associate Professor level, which can be an entry level permanent appointment. In exceptional cases more senior staff can be appointed with the title of Professor. The post comes with a Tutorial Fellowship at St Catherine’s College, with associated financial and other benefits. The Oxford group has a substantial range of current activity in the area of offshore renewable energy, with work in geotechnical engineering including the highly successful PISA project on offshore wind monopile foundations (winner of the BGA’s 2017 Fleming Award), the EPSRC/industry funded ALPACA project for piles in chalk and a five year Research Framework Agreement with Ørsted for cyclic loading of offshore monopile foundations. We are also partners in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Renewable Energy Marine Structures and the recently announced EPSRC Supergen ORE Hub.
