The Hellenic Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (HSTAM) in cooperation with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki announce the 12th HSTAM International Congress on Mechanics to be held in Thessaloniki from 22-25 September 2019.
HSTAM was founded in Athens in 1978 and is a member of IUTAM– the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (http://iutam.org/ ). The first Congress was held in 1992 and since then a Congress is organized by HSTAM every three years in a different city in collaboration with local Educational and/or Research Institutions.
After the last highly successful 11th HSTAM in May 2016 organized by National Technical University of Athens in Athens, the next 12th HSTAM Congress will be hosted by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Thessaloniki. The Organizing Committee intends to make this Congress a memorable event by bringing together renowned national and international scientists on several topics, promoting scientific discussions, encouraging future collaborations and integrating in the scientific program a rich program of social activities.
Thessaloniki, capital of Macedonia, is the second largest Greek city and was named after Thessaloniki, sister of Alexander the Great. Situated on the shores of the Thermaikos Gulf, the city is composed of two sectors, the modern sector and the old town. While the modern areas are full of excellent examples of recent architecture, monuments remain within the city dating from Roman and Byzantine times. Today, Thessaloniki is an important commercial port with more than 1 million people and a busy city with a multitude of cultural, scientific and other events, offering excellent accommodations and modern conference and exhibition facilities. Thessaloniki is in the list of World Heritage Cultural Sites of UNESCO for the plethora of Byzantine churches that survive today.
The conference is dedicated to the memory of late Professor Ioannis Vardoulakis on the occasion of 10th years from his death in recognition of his contributions and achievements in Mechanics A special session in honor of Professor Vardoulakis is organized by Professors Panos Papanastasiou (University of Cyprus) and Ioannis Stefanou (Ecole des Ponts, Paris Tech, France).
The Organizing Committee is looking forward to welcome you at the 12th HSTAM International Congress on Mechanics (12 HSTAM 2019) in Thessaloniki.
