At its meeting in Aussois, September 2014, the ALERT Board of Directors approved four submitted applications for the membership in the ALERT Geomaterials association:

With this decision, the number of the member institutions of ALERT Geomaterials increased to 34!

ALERT Geomaterials Workshop 2015

The ALERT Geomaterials Workshop 2015 will be organized from Monday, 28 September till Wednesday, 30 September in Aussois, France. It will include the following sessions:

Session 1 (Monday, September 28)
From discrete methods to continuum methods: Applications, Problems and Solutions
Coordinators: Y. Dafalias, L. Sibille and E. Andò

Session 2 (Tuesday, September 29)
How should we teach geomechanics?
Coordinators: G. Viggiani and I. Herle
(a half-day exploratory workshop)

Session 3 (Wednesday, September 30)
Fracturing and fractured reservoirs
Coordinators: E. Papamichos, H. Lewis and G. Couples

ALERT Doctoral School on Coupled and multiphysics phenomena will follow the workshop.

PhD Position within Rock Physics

The Department of Petroleum Engineering and Applied Geophysics at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway invites applicants for PhD research fellowship in the field of rock physics. The position is part of the project “Shale Rock Physics: Improved seismic monitoring for increased recovery”, which is funded by the Norwegian Research Council (PETROMAKS 2 program) and six industry partners. The project is coordinated by SINTEF Petroleum. The PhD research fellowship is awarded for a total of 3 years and the experimental work will be carried out at SINTEF’s Formation Physics Laboratory.

Faculty Tenure Track Position in Geotechnical Engineering at Northwestern University

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northwestern University invites applicants for a tenure track faculty position in geotechnical engineering. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, soil-structure interaction, numerical modeling, geo-mechanics, retaining structures, geotechnical earthquake engineering and flow through porous media.
