NTNU has recently posted two PhD positions;
(1) on innovative protection solutions from landslides triggered by extreme weather events, website
(2) Landslide assessment framework using IOT, website
PhD position available at the University Grenoble Alpes in France on “Micro-macro modelling by the method of discrete elements (DEM) of the long-term behaviour of shaft seals under hydraulic-gas loading”.
For more details please see the attached document.
The position is open to holders of a doctorate in civil engineering and more specifically in the thematic of geotechnical earthquake engineering, or he/she should justify an equivalent level especially for foreign applicants. The candidate should have knowledge and strong interest for experimental research, an experience in dynamic physical modelling will be very much appreciated. For complementary purpose with the actual team in Nantes, the candidate must also have good knowledge of numerical modeling in the field of geotechnical engineering and in particular in the modeling of dynamic soil response. More information in the attached document.
The candidate is expected to propose a project for the position in his/her application and for this reason it is strongly recommended to contact:
Luca Lenti, acting director of the laboratory « Earthquake and Vibrations » (SV), e-mail
Sandra Escoffier, researcher, e-mail
Eric Gaume, director of the department « Geotechnical engineering, Environment, Natural Hazards and Hearth science », email
Dual PhD degree at Heriot-Watt and Ghent Universities.
More information in the website. Deadline is 6th April.
A PhD scholarship is available at Politecnico di Torino, Italy, under the guidance of Prof. Marina Pirulli. The project aims at developing a multi-scale modeling strategy for debris-flow through the integration of 2D and 3D numerical approaches. The scholarship has a length of 36 months and prescribes an 18-month mobility period at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. More information in the attached document.
The entire life cycle of a concrete member will be studied using 3D X-ray velocimetry. This project will investigate the influence of mixing and pouring on the load carrying capacity of fibre reinforced concrete composites using state of the art dynamic X-ray analysis to track fibre orientation and distribution within members over time. This information will be used to advance constitutive models of the specimens, and the link between specimen behaviour and member behaviour will be made by upscaling knowledge of the rheological behaviour during pouring.
