The Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics (NCG) and the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC) will be undertaking a large multi-disciplinary EPSRC funded project related to the assessment of new materials within railway drainage systems. NCG brings together expertise from the worlds of civil and geotechnical engineering as well as mathematics and material sciences to solve all forms of soil and rock-related engineering design and construction problems. NTEC is the UK’s foremost university research centre focused on pavement engineering and materials, infrastructure asset management, and operational risk and reliability. The project benefits from the direct involvement of industry partners and seeks to make developments which could significantly advance the methods and materials used in railway drainage systems. We seek a highly motivated researcher to join our team to work on this challenging project.

Chair of Subsurface Engineering at TU Delft
Applications are invited for a full Professor of Subsurface Engineering. This chair is a merger of the former part-time chairs of Foundation Engineering and Underground Space Technology, and concerns the practical implementation of geotechnical engineering concepts to address issues such as optimisation of foundation design, construction of tunnels in built-up areas, geo-risk management, sustainability, safety, and so on. More details and how to apply in the pdf file.
PhD position at BAM, Berlin
BAM, Berlin German invites applications for a PhD research position for the multi-physics constitutive modeling of concrete as a porous medium. More information is available in the attached file.
Advanced course on Modeling of Localized Inelastic Deformation
Advanced course on Modeling of Localized Inelastic Deformation (LID 2015), taught by Milan Jirásek in Prague, Czech Republic, 7-11 September 2015.
This course provides an overview of modeling approaches used in the mechanics of inelastic materials and structures, with special attention to the objective description of highly localized deformation modes such as cracks or shear bands. It is one of the RILEM educational courses. The course is intended for graduate students at the doctoral level, but it can be equally useful to motivated master students, post-doctoral researchers, or senior researchers who are not specialists in this field.
For details see http://mech.fsv.cvut.cz/~milan/course2015.html
For registration please contact Milan.Jirasek@fsv.cvut.cz .
Registration for the ALERT Workshop & School 2015 is open!
The registration for the ALERT Geomaterials Workshop and School 2015 is open now (the programme of the workshop and school is still preliminary)! You can register using the form at https://alertgeomaterials.eu/forms/registration_2015.html. Please read the hints in the registration form! After filling the form and pressing the button “Register”, a window will open with your invoice. Please print the window with the invoice for your records! You will also get an email with the registration data afterwards. In case of the registration of the ALERT members, the corresponding representative of the ALERT institution will receive the registration data too.
The deadline for the registration is the September 20th! The accomodation in Aussois will be processed in the order of the registrations (see the hints in the registration form). Please note that the number of rooms in the CNRS “Centre Paul Langevin“ is limited.
See also hints on how to get to Aussois!
