Fully-funded PhD and postdoc positions at the University of Sydney

  1. Postdoc position in stochastic modelling of granular media at The University of Sydney

A funded postdoc position is available in the Sydney Centre in Geomechanics and Mining Materials (SciGEM) at The University of Sydney on heterarchical stochastic modelling of granular media. The project involves developing and applying new computational tools for modelling segregation, mixing and crushing in granular flows. These models will be applied to understand bulk solids handling problems with an industrial partner Rio Tinto. At SciGEM you will join an amazing team of researchers in the area of granular physics, geomechanics and mineral processing. Applicants should have a proven background in computational mechanics/physics, either from civil engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, computer science or related fields. Funding is generally available for 3 years, subject to annual reviews and approval by the industry partner. Applications close 1 January 2023. Please contact Professor Itai Einav (itai.einav@sydney.edu.au) for more information or to apply with CV and cover letter.

  1. PhD position in coupled computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and granular flow at The University of Sydney

A funded PhD position is available in the Sydney Centre in Geomechanics and Mining Materials (SciGEM) at The University of Sydney on heterarchical stochastic modelling of granular media. The project involves coupling CFD with stochastic model of granular flow that includes segregation and mixing. The model will be applied to understand pneumatic conveyors in bulk solids handling problems with an industrial partner Rio Tinto, and will involve travel and time with this company. At SciGEM you will join an amazing team of researchers in the area of granular physics, geomechanics and mineral processing. Funding is available for 3.5 years. Applicants should have a background in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, computer science or a related field. Applications close 1 January 2023. Please contact Professor Itai Einav (itai.einav@sydney.edu.au) for more information or to apply with CV and cover letter.
