Dear Colleagues,

We are seeking highly motivated PhD candidates to join the Laboratory for Multiscale Geomechanics in the Department of Civil Engineering at McMaster University, Canada. Two fully funded PhD positions are available, with preferred start dates in January or September 2027.

Potential research topics include large-deformation modeling of geostructures, thermo-hydro-mechanical modeling of geomaterials across spatial scales, and small-scale simulations of porous multiphase materials.

Applications are encouraged from outstanding students with backgrounds in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related fields who have strong preparation in mechanics, numerical methods, or computational modelling. Prior geomechanics experience is welcome but not required. Experience implementing numerical methods such as FEM, DEM, MPM, SPH, or molecular dynamics (MD) is beneficial but not required.
