The proposed research aims to develop Ultra High Capacity Tensiometers (UHCT) that can measure soil suctions in the range of 7-10MPa with the intent of overcoming existing limitations with high capacity tensiometers (HCT).
A PhD position is available in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) within in the field of continuum mechanics and elasto-viscoplasticity. The research aims to provide a constitutive model for soft, sensitive Scandinavian clays for practical geotechnical design using the Finite Element Method.

The Civil Engineering research group at Oxford has an academic vacancy in the area of Geotechnical Engineering / Offshore Renewable Energy. The appointment is at Associate Professor level, which can be an entry level permanent appointment. In exceptional cases more senior staff can be appointed with the title of Professor. The post comes with a Tutorial Fellowship at St Catherine’s College, with associated financial and other benefits. The Oxford group has a substantial range of current activity in the area of offshore renewable energy, with work in geotechnical engineering including the highly successful PISA project on offshore wind monopile foundations (winner of the BGA’s 2017 Fleming Award), the EPSRC/industry funded ALPACA project for piles in chalk and a five year Research Framework Agreement with Ørsted for cyclic loading of offshore monopile foundations. We are also partners in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Renewable Energy Marine Structures and the recently announced EPSRC Supergen ORE Hub. The Laboratory of Soil Mechanics (LMS) at EPFL is currently looking for two PhD students and a Postdoctoral researcher to conduct research in THM testing and modelling of geomaterials as part of research activities on nuclear waste storage.

The newly established Mechanics and Energy Laboratory (MEL) of Northwestern University, directed by Prof. Alessandro F. Rotta Loria, is seeking two post-doctoral researchers interested in developing research activities addressing fundamental and applied problems centered on the mechanics of geomaterials and structural systems in the context of energy production and storage. The scope of one post-doctoral position is predominantly experimental while the other one is predominantly theoretical.

A call is open to award one post-doctoral grant within the I&D Project CEN-DynaGEO – Coupled Experimental and Numerical Approaches Toward Reliable Dynamic Characterization of Geomaterials, PTDC/EAM-GTC/29923/2017, funded by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT). The goal of this project is to investigate the multi-scale behaviour of clay rock, going from microscopic to macroscopic scale. The research will be based on multi-scale
