Post-doc position at Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics

Applications are invited for a Dean of Engineering Prize in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham. The successful candidate will work within the Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics (NCG). NCG brings together expertise from the worlds of geotechnical engineering, mathematics and material sciences to solve all forms of soil and rock-related engineering design and construction problems as well as to perform fundamental geotechnical research. The centre possesses extensive element testing facilities and a 2 metre radius geotechnical centrifuge for conducting small-scale model experiments at full-scale stress levels.

Post-doc position at Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics

The Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics (NCG) and the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC) will be undertaking a large multi-disciplinary EPSRC funded project related to the assessment of new materials within railway drainage systems. NCG brings together expertise from the worlds of civil and geotechnical engineering as well as mathematics and material sciences to solve all forms of soil and rock-related engineering design and construction problems. NTEC is the UK’s foremost university research centre focused on pavement engineering and materials, infrastructure asset management, and operational risk and reliability. The project benefits from the direct involvement of industry partners and seeks to make developments which could significantly advance the methods and materials used in railway drainage systems. We seek a highly motivated researcher to join our team to work on this challenging project.

Chair of Subsurface Engineering at TU Delft

This chair is a merger of the former part-time chairs of Foundation Engineering and Underground Space Technology, and concerns the practical implementation of geotechnical engineering concepts to address issues such as optimisation of foundation design, construction of tunnels in built-up areas, geo-risk management, sustainability, safety, and so on. PhD position in Grenoble

A PhD position (starting in September 2015) is available at Laboratoire 3SR, University of Grenoble (France) on experimental mechanics of granular materials. The title of the project is “Force Inferred from macroscopic loading and grain motions” — further details are provided in the pdf file.

Marie Curie Experienced Researcher in Computational soil/fluid mechanics at the University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge, in collaboration their industrial partner Deltares, is looking for a full-time post-doctoral researcher in the frame of EU Marie Curie MPM-Dredge project (http://mpm-dredge.eu/project-dredge/). The aim of the project is to develop a dynamic Material Point Method code for dredging applications. It aims to solve the numerical issues associated with large deformations and fluid pressures that occur in the interaction between soils and fluids.
