NCG brings together expertise from the worlds of geotechnical engineering, mathematics and material sciences to solve all forms of soil and rock-related engineering design and construction problems as well as to perform fundamental geotechnical research. The centre possesses extensive element testing facilities and a 2 metre radius geotechnical centrifuge for conducting small-scale model experiments at full-scale stress levels.

The Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics (NCG) and the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC) will be undertaking a large multi-disciplinary EPSRC funded project related to the assessment of new materials within railway drainage systems. NCG brings together expertise from the worlds of civil and geotechnical engineering as well as mathematics and material sciences to solve all forms of soil and rock-related engineering design and construction problems. NTEC is the UK’s foremost university research centre focused on pavement engineering and materials, infrastructure asset management, and operational risk and reliability. The project benefits from the direct involvement of industry partners and seeks to make developments which could significantly advance the methods and materials used in railway drainage systems. We seek a highly motivated researcher to join our team to work on this challenging project.

The University of Cambridge, in collaboration their industrial partner Deltares, is looking for a full-time post-doctoral researcher in the frame of EU Marie Curie MPM-Dredge project (http://mpm-dredge.eu/project-dredge/). The aim of the project is to develop a dynamic Material Point Method code for dredging applications. It aims to solve the numerical issues associated with large deformations and fluid pressures that occur in the interaction between soils and fluids.
