Project Description (Advert Reference: RDF19/EE/MCE/MENDES):
The proposed research aims to develop Ultra High Capacity Tensiometers (UHCT) that can measure soil suctions in the range of 7-10MPa with the intent of overcoming existing limitations with high capacity tensiometers (HCT).
PhD position at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
A PhD position is available in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) within in the field of continuum mechanics and elasto-viscoplasticity. The research aims to provide a constitutive model for soft, sensitive Scandinavian clays for practical geotechnical design using the Finite Element Method.
Please see the advertisement for further details.
Applications are possible until 1st January 2019.
Associate Professorship (or Professorship) of Engineering Science (Civil Engineering)
The Civil Engineering research group at Oxford has an academic vacancy in the area of Geotechnical Engineering / Offshore Renewable Energy. The appointment is at Associate Professor level, which can be an entry level permanent appointment. In exceptional cases more senior staff can be appointed with the title of Professor. The post comes with a Tutorial Fellowship at St Catherine’s College, with associated financial and other benefits. The Oxford group has a substantial range of current activity in the area of offshore renewable energy, with work in geotechnical engineering including the highly successful PISA project on offshore wind monopile foundations (winner of the BGA’s 2017 Fleming Award), the EPSRC/industry funded ALPACA project for piles in chalk and a five year Research Framework Agreement with Ørsted for cyclic loading of offshore monopile foundations. We are also partners in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Renewable Energy Marine Structures and the recently announced EPSRC Supergen ORE Hub. We are looking to strengthen the group’s activities in this exciting area through this appointment. The closing date is 17 January 2019. The advert can be found at the following link and more detail is in the attached further particulars.

Two post-doc positions at Northwestern University, USA
The newly established Mechanics and Energy Laboratory (MEL) of Northwestern University, directed by Prof. Alessandro F. Rotta Loria, is seeking two post-doctoral researchers interested in developing research activities addressing fundamental and applied problems centered on the mechanics of geomaterials and structural systems in the context of energy production and storage. The scope of one post-doctoral position is predominantly experimental while the other one is predominantly theoretical.
More information about these positions can be found in the two dedicated documents attached to this call experimental and theoretical. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Prof. Alessandro F. Rotta Loria at the following e-mail address: alessandro.rottaloria@gmail.com
