PhD Position at the University of Strathclyde

A 4-year PhD studentship is available at the University of Strathclyde. This includes payment of home tuition fees for UK applicants and EU applicants with pre-settled or settled status and an enhanced stipend of £19,602 for academic year 2022/23, rising each year in line with UKRI rates. 

This project is investigating the use of colloidal silica grout (which forms a hydrogel) in the long-term sealing of boreholes in the ground, to prevent subsequent upward fluid migration from rocks at depth to the surface. More details in the advert attached.

European Commission H2020 GEOLAB Project – Second Call for Proposals and Transnational Access Webinar

We are happy to announce that GEOLAB has launched its Second Call for Proposals to potential users among academia, SME, and industry to gain access to excellent research facilities in the fields of geotechnical and environmental engineering. This so-called Transnational Access is free of charge and includes technical & scientific support from the hosting facility. The theme of the present call is: ‘Experiments to study the pressures on Critical Infrastructure, e.g., impact of climate change, aging, increased usage, extreme weather events and geo-hazards’.

In our upcoming webinar, GEOLAB’s Second Transnational Access Webinar, we will be presenting an overview and update on project activities; examples of physical modelling of CI pressures; and fielding questions in relation to the presentations and access policy. 

The event will take place on May 19th, 9:30 – 11:00 AM CET.

The webinar will be delivered by University of Cambridge, TU Delft, ETH Zurich, Deltares, CEDEX, NGI, Technical University of Darmstadt, University Gustave Eiffel, and University of Maribor.

Invitation to the International Workshop on Unsaturated Soils: 3rd Edition of AGERP (2022)

Thank you for your support to the AGERP lecture series in 2020 and 2021. At AGERP’20 and AGERP’21, we have had 16 lectures and 1 panel discussion that brought together 38 renowned geoengineering experts and a huge audience from 126 countries through a free to access knowledge sharing platform. Apart from the generous support from the experts that appeared in AGERP’20 and AGERP’21, it is your participation and appreciation that largely contributed to the success of AGERP.

In the first and second edition of the AGERP lecture series, we covered quite a breadth of topics related to geotechnical engineering. With the third edition we intend to dive further and deeper into some of the specialised topics in geotechnical engineering. To that end, we are pleased to invite you to the second workshop of the AGERP 2022 which will be an International Workshop on Unsaturated Soils, this workshop is scheduled to be held from 24th to 26th May 2022 (Australia). PhD course on Soil Modelling at NTNU

NTNU’s Geotechnical Group offers a PhD Course in Soil Modelling from October 3rd to 7th, 2022. This course provides a background for development and application of the soil models used in continuum-based computer codes for geotechnical applications. The course focuses on soil behaviour, elasto-plastic theory, hyperplasticity, selected material models and their parameters. It also provides some insight into numerical implementation of soil models. The course aims at providing a general theoretical framework for interpretation of the mechanical behaviour of soils.”
